Earlier this year we brought Michelle onto our team in a back up doula capacity, this fall she will be taking on clients within our shared care model as both a birth and postpartum doula. Welcome to the team Michelle!
Michelle - we want to know about you, your passions and best parts of your personality:
I’m a wife and mother of two young boys. I love spending time with my family either in our community or at our cottage. I enjoy the outdoors, (especially in winter!), and am a big country music fan! I’m known for being calm, level-headed, articulate and compassionate with a special capacity for patience and understanding in difficult situations. In my spare time (Ha! What’s that with kids?), I love doing crafty DIY projects and am always on the lookout for ways to personalize spaces and objects for my own family and for others.
What did you do before you came across doula work?
I’ve always been a people person. I have an undergrad in Sociology from the University of Guelph with a minor in Anthropology. I have worked in Recreation my whole life, and have naturally moved into management and supervisory roles, where I guide staff and participants in their own training. Over the last 15 years I have maintained a valid Standard First Aid with Infant CPR. I have been a Support Worker for individuals with special needs.
What other specialized training or skills do you have?
I have my NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Level 1. I’m a snowboard instructor and have coached figure skating and gymnastics too! I was a Girl Guide leader for over 5 years. I have volunteered for many fundraisers and special events including a large fundraiser I co-chaired for Breast Cancer awareness.
Tell us what you love about being a part of the Lifetime of Love Doula team or what you are looking forward to as being a part of the team:
I love the love and support that Lifetime of Love Doulas extended to both myself and all their families! The team approach is so special and I feel supported by a very wonderful group! I truly feel that the experiences we each bring to the group will help to support our families at a whole new level.
