Partnership & Informed Choice
They also report enjoying the continuity of care aspect with respect to being acquainted with the group of midwives that provide clinical care before, during, after delivery and up to 6 weeks postpartum.
Continuity in Healthcare
With midwifery care, your midwife is your primary care provider. It begins as soon as you sign up after your positive pregnancy test. Midwives provide clinical care throughout pregnancy, birth and the postpartum. Midwives may order blood work, ultrasounds and tests as needed. One of your midwives will be present during labour, delivery and immediate postpartum providing one on one clinical care. Clients report a high satisfaction rate knowing the care provider who will be delivering their baby.
Midwives are available by pager 24 hours a day, everyday. Depending on the community, midwives will be able to assess and monitor the woman at home, clinic or in the hospital. In some scenarios, midwifery clients may experience less hospital triage visits and report more support with their health care concerns especially in the postpartum.
A special thank you to Registered Midwife Nina Couto of Midwifery Care of Peel & Halton Hills for her contribution to our blog!
