World Breastfeeding Week is observed every year between August 1-7 commemorating the Innocenti Declaration. The Declaration was signed in August 1990 by government policy makers, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), along with other international organizations in an effort to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
This year's theme, "Breastfeeding and Work - Let's Make It Work!", focuses on suggestions to workplace policies that can positively effect mothers in their efforts to continue breastfeeding upon their return to the workplace.
In Ontario, the Ontario Human Rights Commision has laws in place protecting working mothers and their right to breastfeed (read more HERE), however, there is still so much that can (and must) be done to accomodate all mothers who choose to breastfeed their child.
The WHO has designed an image rich and social media friendly campaign to spread this message and build awareness.
